Below you will find some of my thoughts and theories around riding and training barrel horses and horses in general. Throughout my site you will find my horses for sale, the services I offer and you will meet those who support me.
I believe that every horse is built from the foundation up. Just like a home. They build the foundation and work their way up. Anytime renovations need to be done, we go back to the framework and the foundation. Different home owners may come and go, but the foundation stands strong and is always there to build on.
Every horse has its own way of going, its own personality and its own way of responding and dealing with instruction. I am their teacher and it is up to me to figure out how each horse learns best. When I taught college students it was so clear how some students you could tell them once and they got it and others had to do it a few times before they got it. These students might end up with the same mark in the end, it just took a little different strategy to get through to them and get them to understand and remember. I try to make a conscious effort to treat my horses like a student and stop and think about how I’m going to get them to learn what I’m asking.
I strongly believe each and every horse is brought into our lives for a reason. They might be here to teach us something, to introduce us to new friends and to allow us to experience new things and present us with new opportunities. It is up to us to look for what they are here for and appreciate what they have to offer. Sometimes when the lesson has been learned that’s when it is time for them to move on to a new owner so they can teach them and bring them new opportunity. There is something to love about each and every horse, however each horse often will fit best with a certain type of rider. This is why I think it is so important to let the horse pick their owners. You can watch them and see if they are confused or accepting of the new rider. There is nothing more satisfying than finding a good home and a rider well matched to a horse I have trained and influenced.
